Located just off the Ochusa-Kostenets road, the name 'Podgorie' means 'Under the Forest' which is very suitable for this small and peaceful village. Surrounded by thick forests and undulating countryside, Podgorie is like a small haven in the ancient forest that surrounds it.

As with the majority of villages in this area, Podgorie benefits from having fresh and unpolluted air and countryside (the village is around 550m above sea level). If you are a fan of hiking and/or rambling, this is certainly the area for you. Like nearby Ochusa, the village is virtually surrounded unspoilt countryside which has a wide variety of flora and fauna.

Even though the village seems to be miles from anywhere, the main roads to Ihtiman (and the 18 hole golf course there) Dolna Banya and Kostenets are very close by allowing ease of access to everywhere and of course to facilities.

Still part of the Samokov municipality, Podgorie is around 85km from Sofia, 25kms from Ihtiman and about 9kms from Kostenets.
